About Me
Well I am a middle aged happily married guy. My wife and I do not have any children. I consider myself a “Classic Liberal” ala JFK, Harry Truman, and FDR. My liberal friends call me a Republican but I am still a registered Democrat. Maybe I am a Neo-Con which I once heard described as “Liberals with guns”. Some would call me a 9/11 Democrat but 9/11 did not change me or my core beliefs.
I certainly find myself agreeing with today’s Republican Party than my own. I have voted for two republicans GWB in 2004 (I voted for Gore in 2000) and The Govenator here in California.
I have always been interested in history, politics, and social policy and love to discuss / argue about each of them. So blogging has been a dream come true for me. For now blogging is just a hobby. Maybe someday it will become more than that.
A brief bio:
I am adopted as is my sister. My father was an alcoholic and died at an early age due to his drinking. We did not speak during the last 15 years of his life. The last time I saw him was when I handed him divorce papers. My mother is about as close as it comes to being a saint. She sacrificed a hell of lot for my sister and I and I love her dearly.
I was born and raised in San Diego living for about 5 years on a farm on the Mexican American border. One of the few good things my dad ever did for me. I have been playing guitar since around 13 years old so that’s about 27 years now. For 15 of those years I played in local bands playing original music with dreams of doing it for a living and caught of few glimpses of larger success. Yes I wase a long haired metal head. Now I have sold out to the man and about 4 years ago cut off my hair (It still pisses me off to think about it) and I have my pony tail framed on the wall.
I am what you would call a self made man and credit my mother for that. We were mostly middle class when I was growing up. My father had union job and my first “official job” at 16 was also in the union. However we did spend a short time on welfare when my mother once tried to leave my alcoholic father. As I said most of the time we lived in a good neighborhood in a decent home that we rented. Since being on my own I have spent more than a few nights sleeping my car. My music led me to a job in the local music store where I discovered another talent that paid much better than playing guitar; Sales.
Within a short time I was the top sales guy in the store and the rest is history as they say. I spent many years in the Action Sports industry as a sales manager for a sunglass company, a wakeboard company, a snowboard company, and had my own clothing company for a time. About 10 years ago I took my first “real job” and have been working for “the man” ever since.
I still have dreams but no longer dreams of fame and fortune, now they are of retiring to a quite country place with lots of land between our family and neighbors where we can raise our children in safety.
That’s prolly enough about me.
Blog on!
